EMU Holds Off Fighting Squirrels In Second Half For 2-1 Win

Box Score

Eastern Mennonite led by one goal at the half Tuesday and the Royals held off Mary Baldwin in the second half for a 2-1 non-conference victory at SMA Worth Field.

The vistors scored on the first possession of the game. EMU's Hailie Mast put a strong shot on goal that was saved by MBU keeper Anyka Wilkin. The shot bounced off Wilkin back into the box and Ashley Iscoa cleaned up the rebound and put her shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 EMU lead just 27 seconds into the first half.

Mary Baldwin responded less than a minute later when Shea Rider beat the EMU keeper with a deep strike to tie the score at 1-1 just 1:07 into the contest.

Eastern Mennonite regained the lead in the 29th minute when Iscoa put a shot on frame that was stopped by Wilkin. Once again, the Royals were in position to finish the rebound as Ashley Harris scored to put the visitors ahead 2-1.

Five minutes later MBU just missed a tying shot when Rider's attempt from 25 yards hit the crossbar, but failed to go in.

MBU, now 3-3, returns to action Wednesday when the Fighting Squirrels host Bob Jones Universoty.
