Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. - Mary Baldwin came out on top during a wild second-half shootout Saturday evening to take a 4-3 non-conference victory over Marymount.
All seven goals were scored in the second half after the two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half.
The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Fighting Squirrels as the team improved its record to 4-3 overall.
Marymount took the lead with a goal just 2:20 into the second half, but MBU's Annie Ammons evened the score with a goal just 35 seconds later, the first of three straight goals for the Fighting Squirrels.
MBU took the lead in the 56th minute when Cyanne Harkins scored off a pass from Quierra Hawkins. Shea Rider scored off Elena Guy's assist in the 77th minute to put the Squirrels on top 3-1.
Marymount cut the lead to 3-2, but Kate Thoele scored in the 85th minute for a 4-2 MBU lead. The Saints trimmed the margin back to one in the 86th minute, but the Squirrels held on in the closing minutes for the 4-3 victory.
After getting off just one shot in the first 45 minutes, MBU fired off 14 shots in the second half to finish with a 15-10 edge in total shots.
MBU returns to action next Saturday at William Peace.
