Volleyball Team Splits Two Matches

The Mary Baldwin volleyball split two home matches Saturday, defeating Virginia Union 3-1 before losing a USA South conference match to Southern Virginia, 3-0.

The Fighting Squirrels opened play with a four-set victory over Virginia Union 25-20, 25-16, 18-25, 25-19. Rachel Christian had a big match for MBU, leading the team with 21 kills and 12 digs. Sydney Clarke added 11 kills while Soleil Rios Rolon contributed 11 digs. Kate Rudolph paced the team with 26 assists.

In the conference matchup, Southern Virginia swept MBU in three, winning 25-11, 25-10, 25-15. Clarke paced MBU with five kills while Emily Link led the team with five digs and seven assists.

MBU, now 4-7 overall, returns to action Wednesday at the PAC with its first USA South East Division match against Averett.
