Box Score Greensboro College swept Mary Baldwin 3-0 Tuesday evening in USA South conference volleyball action.
The Fighting Squirrels led early in the first set, taking a 10-7 advantage on a kill by Rachel Christian. A kill by Sydney Clarke had MBU even on the scoreboard, 14-14, but the Pride reeled off the next seven points to take control of the set, 21-14. Greensboro closed out the first set 25-16.
MBU matched the visitors point-for-point for much of the second set. A kill by Clarke put the Squirrels up 10-7 and, after Greensboro took the lead, two kills by Christian kept MBU even at 12-12 and then 13-13. The Pride led 18-14 before two kills by Clarke and one by Alexis Edmonds pulled MBU to within one, 18-17. The Pride moved out to a 23-18 lead, but a kill by Christian and an ace from Kate Rudolph closed the margin to 23-21 before the visitors scored the next two points to close out the second set.
The Squirrels stayed close early in the tird set. A kill by Hannah Myers had MBU within two points, 8-6, and a kill by Clarke kept the margin at two, 12-10. The Pride then took control and steadily pulled away to win the third set, 25-17.
Clarke led Mary Baldwin with nine kills. Christian finished with seven kills and seven digs while Rudolph added 18 assists.
MBU, now 4-11 overall and 0-4 in the conference, is back in action Saturday when the Squirrels host Methodist and N.C. Wesleyan in conference action.
