Box Score Mary Baldwin scored the first 11 points of the game Saturday afternoon and never trailed in an 81-63 conference victory over Methodist. The win was the fourth in a row for the Fighting Squirrels, all coming in conference play.
After MBU's earlly 11-0 spurt, Methodist closed the gap to 13-12. MBU then hit the Monarchs with another run, this time outscoring Methodist 15-2 to lead 28-14 with 7:08 left in the first half. Mary Baldwin controlled play the rest of the way, taking a comfortable double-digit win.
Jaden Ignacio came off the bench to lead MBU in scoring with 23 points. The MBU guard hit 5-of-6 shots from 3-point range. Brandon Stoudamire continued his strong play, scoring 18 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Tyler Thomas flirted with a triple-double, producing 10 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Vernon Fraley contributed 12 points and Quentin Hart finished with 11 for the Squirrels.
MBU is now 6-8 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The Squirrels are all in alone in second place in the USA South East Division standings. Mary Baldwin is back in action Wednesday evening when Averett, the East Division leaders, visit the PAC. The Cougars are 6-1 in conference play. Earlier this season, Averett took a three-point, 64-61, victory over the Squirrels in Danville.
