Season Comes To An End For MBU In Women's Soccer Semifinals

Mary Baldwin's season came to an end Thursday evening when the Fighting Squirrels fell just short, losing 2-1 at Southern Virginia in the USA South women's soccer tournament semifinal round.

Southern Virginia scored both of its goals in the first half, but MBU stayed in contention when Shea Rider scored from long range, making the score 2-1 in the 73rd minute.

The Squirrels kep the pressure on when freshman Vanessa Alfaro-Young put a shot on frame in the 78th minute, but SVU keeper Alyssa Trueman was there for the save. MBU had another opportunity in the 86th minute with a corner kick, but Rider's shot missed wide left.

The Knights held a 13-8 edge in total shots and a 7-2 margin in corner kicks. Mary Baldwin keeper Anyka Wilkin finished with five saves.

Mary Baldwin finished the 2022 season with a 13-7-1 overall record.
