EMU Holds Off Fighting Squirrels

STAUNTON, Va. – Eastern Mennonite University took on the Mary Baldwin women's basketball team in a game that came down to the wire before the Squirrels fell to the Royals 65-58.

The Squirrels had three players in double digits as Codie Heilig and A'Cetta Farrait led the team with a game-high 16 points each while Caroline Motley tallied 10 points.

The Royals took a 19-10 lead in the first quarter before the Squirrels started a comeback to just trail by five, 27-22 at the half. Coming out of the half the Squirrel's offense took over in the third quarter with a five-point advantage to take a 50-49 lead. The Royals took over in the ofurth quarter with efficient shooting and free throws to end the game after the Squirrels cut the lead to four points.

Four Royals scored in double figures, however, the Squirrels shot more efficiently for the game shooting 25-59 (42.4%) from the floor compared to the Royal's 20-65 (30.8%). MBU fell behind in threes as well as turnovers, sealing the win for the Royals.

The Fighting Squirrels will return to action on Wednesday , Jan  4, when they host Brevard at 4:30 p.m. in conference action.
