Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va. - Southern Virginia moved out to a double-digit lead with eight minutes left in the game Thursday evening and Mary Baldwin was unable to close the gap down the stretch as the Knights closed out a 70-54 conference victory.
The Knights led 33-28 at the half, but Mary Baldwin scored the first six points of the second half to take the lead. Tyler Tomas scored on a jumper and then added a layup to pull the Squirrels to within a point. Vernon Fraley followed by knocking down a jumper for a 34-33 MBU lead with 15:37 left in the game.
SVU regained the lead, 36-34, on a 3-pointer by Elliott Spencer and the Knights led the rest of the way to salvage a split of the season series with MBU.
Thomas, Fraley and Jaden Ignacio all finished the contest with 12 points apeice to pace the Fighting Squirrels.
MBU, now 6-10 overall and 5-4 in the conference, is back in action Saturday at William Peace.
