Box Score Mary Baldwin showed off a balanced scoring attached with four players in double figures Saturday in an 83-69 conference victory over William Peace.
Brandon Stoudamire led the Fighting Squirrels with 18 points and teammate Vernon Fraley added 17 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Tyler Thomas and Zach Fullagar each scored 14 points whith Thomas adding a team-best seven assists. Two more players just missed double figures with Quentin Hart scoring nine points and Brett Asbury adding eight.
Mary Baldwin made 51.5 percent of its field goal attempets in the first half and also made all 10 of its free throws to lead 46-40 at the break.
MBU held a slim 65-60 lead with 8:58 left in the game, but the Pacers went scoreless for more than six minutes and the Squirrels scored 12 points during that span to blow the game open, 77-60. Fraley ignited the decisive run with a 3-pointer and Stoudamire made two free throws for a 10-point, 70-60 lead. Thomas scored inside and Stoudamire threw down a dunk to make it 74-70. Thomas added two foul shots and Hart capped the run with 1-of-2 at the foul line for the 77-60 advantage.
The victory snapped a two-game MBU losing skid. Mary Baldwin is now 7-10 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The Squirrels return to action Wednesday when they travel to N.C. Wesleyan.
