The Mary Baldwin men's tennis team made history Wednesday afternoon, defeating Greensboro College 6-3 for the first victory in program history.
Eric Leyton and Connor Lindhjem took a hard-earned point at No 1 doubles, edging Greensboro's Phillip Deutsch and Same Kruse 8-6. At No. 2 doubles MBU's Austin Garza and Noah Knick rolled to an 8-2 victory over Phoenix Green and Mason Thomas.
In singles play, Garza rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Green at the No. 3 position while Knick defeated Thomas 6-1, 6-1 to earn the point at No. 4.
In an exciting marathon match at No. 1 singles, Kruse outlasted Leyton in split sets. The two split the first two sets by identical 6-4 margins to set up a tiebreaker to determine the victor. Kruse edge Keyton in the tiebreaker 12-10 to win the match.
