Brevard (10-4-2, 4-2-2 USA South) broke a scoreless tie just before halftime, then added two insurance goals in the second half, to secure a 3-0 USA South Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Mary Baldwin (3-10-2, 2-4-1 USA South) Saturday.

Maddy Vinson made three saves on nine shots in the first half, but a free kick by Brevard's Nicole Arroyo looped high into the upper corner of the goal and out of Vinson's reach to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at halftime. The Tornados added two insurance goals in the second half to provide the final margin of victory.
The Fighting Squirrels provided a number of offensive challenges and had five corner kicks during the match. MBU finished with eight total shots, including three on target.
MBU will take another shot at clinching its third-straight USA South playoff berth Wednesday (10/25) when the Fighting Squirrels travel to Greensboro for a 6:30 clash. The regular-season will end Saturday (10/28) when North Carolina Wesleyan visits SMA Worth Field (2 p.m.) on Senior Day for the Fighting Squirrels.Â
Mary Baldwin is currently in seventh place in the USA South and have several scenarios available to secure a playoff berth, including  a victory in either remaining match, ties in both matches or losses by other conference teams.
The first round of the USA South playoffs, including the top eight teams in the conference, begins Tuesday, Oct. 31.
