The Mary Baldwin volleyball squad closed out its 2023 season with a pair of 3-0 losses Saturday at Salem (N.C.) College. The Fighting Squirrels (2-27, 0-18 USA South) opened with a non-conference loss to Roanoke, 25-19, 25-20, 25-13, followed by the season-ending USA South setback to the host Spirits, 25-7, 25-16, 25-8.
Against Roanoke, sophomore
Delaney Bolbach led the Fighting Squirrels with seven kills with a .250 hitting percentage while freshman Sabrini Birts was close with six kills. Sophomore
Hanna Roach also contributed five kills and Sophomore
Jaci McAlwee added four kills on six attempts for a .333 hitting percentage. Freshman
Josie Sheets also had a well-rounded match with team-highs of seven digs, nine assists, one solo block and one block assist.
Against Salem, Birts, with a team-best .300 hitting percentage, shared the team lead in kills with Roach and senior
Megan Andrews, all with four scores. Sheets contributed 11 of MBU's 13 assists while classmate
Jaisley Tibayan led the way on defense with eight digs.
