Geneva Rallies For 70-68 Win Over MBU Men's Basketball At Doc Greene Holiday Tournament

Box Score Geneva College rallied from an 18-point deficit in the second half to edge Mary Baldwin, 70-68, in the first round of the Doc Greene annual men's basketball tournament at Juniata College Friday.  The decision sends MBU to the third-place game Saturday at 2 p.m. against Penn College, which dropped a 60-54 decision to host Juniata in Friday's other first-round showdown.

Senior Vernon Fraley shared game-high scoring honors with 20 markers - 10 in each half - and shared team-high rebounding honors with seven for the Fighting Squirrels (3-7), who have lost three straight games and six of their last seven.  Senior guard Quentin Hart was the only other MBU player in double figures, finishing with 12 scores.

Geneva's Trevor Tipton equaled Fraley's output with 20 points, including three long range shots, while teammate Ryan Rachic added 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.  Geneva (9-2) will face host Juniata in Saturday's championship game at 4 p.m.

Fraley and Mekhi Reid, who scored all of his eight points in the opening 20 minutes, helped the Fighting Squirrels secure a 36-28 halftime advantage.  MBU was still hot early in the second half, extending the lead to 49-31 before Geneva began its rally.  Tipton drained a three with 4:25 left gave Geneva a 62-60 lead.

Logan Barbour answered 20 seconds later with a long-range shot for a 63-62 lead, and the teams battled down to the wire.  Hart hit a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to even the score at 68, but a foul with :01 left on the clock sent Geneva's Isaac Massie to the line.  Massie made no mistake on both tries and Geneva clinched the win.
