Luke Ogle poured in 21 points and senior forward
Vernon Fraley added 21 as the Mary Baldwin men's basketball offense exploded in a 102-74 victory over Penn College of Technology in the third-place game of the annual Doc Greene Tournament at Juniata College Saturday.
The victory snapped a three-game MBU losing streak and sends the Fighting Squirrels into the beginning of USA South Conference play Wednesday at Brevard College with a 4-7 record.
Ogle erupted for 18 points in the opening half, including a 4-for-5 performance from three-point range, as the Fighting Squirrels took a 53-42 lead to the mid game break. Fraley, who was named to the all-tournament team, also contributed 10 of his points in the first half, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Penn College, which was led by Landon Reeder (25 points) and Gavin Barrett (20 points, 10 assists), closed the gap to seven points on two occasions in the first four minutes of the second half.Â
MBU quickly built the lead back to double digits and extended it to more than 20 points to coast to the victory. Fraley had 11 points, sophomore guard hit all three of his long-range shots while Ogle and senior guard
Quentin Hart each had eight points in the final 20 minutes to secure the win.
Geneva College, which edged the Fighting Squirrels in Friday's first round action, posted a 59-34 triumph over host Juniata in Saturday's championship game.
