The score may not show it, but there were some solid performances Tuesday when the youthful Mary Baldwin volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to first-place Southern Virginia at the PAC in Staunton. The set scored were 25-14, 25-13, 25-16 in favor of the visiting Knights (6-6, 3-0 USA South).

Alexis Edmonds led the way for MBU with five of the team's 14 kills and three of the team's five service aces. Freshmen
Josie Sheets and
Jaisley Tibayan continue to contribute in all aspects of the game while classmate
Cydney Reyes was strong in extended playing opportunity. Sheets had a team-leading eight assists and five digs while Tibayan and Reyes shared the team lead with eight digs.
Brookelyn Madland led both teams with 10 kills and a .292 hitting percentage while Brenna Clyde added seven kills and two solo blocks for Southern Virginia.
The Fighting Squirrels (2-10, 0-3 USA South) return to action Saturday at home against USA South Conference rival Pfeiffer (4-4, 0-3 USA South), beginning at 1 p.m. MBU will follow that at 4 p.m. with a non-conference clash against Virginia Lynchburg.
