Sophomore
Harmony Crawford scored her team-leading sixth goal and added an assist on an insurance tally to lead Mary Baldwin to a 3-0 women's soccer victory over visiting Pfeiffer (3-11, 1-7 USA South) Saturday at SMA Worth Field.
The victory guarantees the Fighting Squirrels their fourth-straight USA South playoff bid. MBU will finish the regular-season Wednesday (10/30) at Southern Virginia (7 p.m.), which will help decide where they'll play their first-round playoff game Saturday (11/2). The opponent, location and time of the playoff game will be announced Wednesday night after the SVU showdown.
Saturday, Crawford opened the scoring by collecting a crossing pass from
Alexis Mansfield in the left corner to
Alma Gonzalez-Hayes near the left post to Crawford in the goal mouth. Crawford patiently found the back of the net for the game-inning goal.
Senior
Sara Gruntowicz doubled MBU's lead later in the first half with her fifth goal of the season off an assist from
Kendall Carr. In the first two minutes of the second half, Crawford set up freshman
Stori Maybank's fifth goal of the season to put the game on ice.
MBU held a 14-2 shooting advantage (12-1 shots on goal). MBU keepers
Maddy Vinson and
Amelia Cross combined to post the shutout.
