Mary Baldwin junior Yefferson Fernandez scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season early in the second half to help the Fighting Squirrels gain a 1-1 draw at USA South rival Greensboro Tuesday.
Fernandez' goal, the 10th of his career, converted a thru pass from captain
Edward Headley in the 58th minute to break open a scoreless match. The host Pride (2-9-2, 0-1-1 USA South) evened the match with just 31 seconds left off a corner kick.
Greensboro held a 14-9 advantage in total shots (5-4 shots on goal) and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. MBU's
Tucker Speak recorded four saves between the pipes.
The Fighting Squirrels (2-6-2, 1-1-1 USA South), who are still in fourth place in the USA South, will host conference rival North Carolina Wesleyan Saturday (10/12), beginning at 2:30 p.m.
