Junior Yefferson Hernandez scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 77th minute of the match, but Mary Baldwin was unable to get the equalizer in Saturday's 2-1 loss at Southern Virginia in the USA South Quarterfinal Round.

The third-seeded Knights (10-4-2) scored an early goal in each half to build a 2-0 advantage over the sixth-seeded Fighting Squirrels.  Hernandez cut the lead in half with an assist by classmate Edward Headley for his 11th career score, but time ran out before MBU could score again.  It was Headley's team-high fifth assist of the season and he tied Hernandez for the scoring lead this season, each with 11 points.

SVU held a slight advantage on total shots, 17-13, but a larger differential in shots on goal (11-4).  MBU keeper Preston Bentley was credited with nine saves in the match.

Mary Baldwin, appearing in the USA South playoffs for the second time in the six-year history of the team, finished the season with a 3-12-2 overall record.  Southern Virginia advances to the conference playoff semifinals, where they'll play at second-seeded Brevard on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
