Graduate student
Jaden Ignacio scored a game-high 27 points and junior
Zach Sloan added 15, but Bridgewater exploded in the middle of the second half for a 27-3 run to pull away for a 93-68 non-conference men's basketball victory over the Fighting Squirrels Tuesday.
Ignacio started slow but finished with a 9-for-15 shooting performance, including four of MBU's six three-point goals, against the Eagles. Sloan was the only other MBU player in double digits in the scoring column and
Raymond Benton chipped in seven scores and a game-high 11 rebounds.
MBU trailed by just one at the break and stayed with the hosts for six minutes, trailing the Eagles 50-48 on a Quintin Hart long-range shot with 13:47 left. That's when Bridgewater scored 13-straight points, part of a 27-3 run that built a 77-51 lead with just over seven minutes left in the contest.
The Fighting Squirrels shot a respectable 44.1% (26-for-59) but hit just six from long range and drained just 10 of 18 free throws. MBU also turned the ball over 19 times in 40 minutes. On the other side, Bridgewater drained over 60% from the field (37-for-60) and 80% from outside the arc (8-for-10).
MBU now has an 11-day break for the Thanksgiving holiday before a two-game road trip, visiting Christopher Newport on Saturday, Dec. 7 (4 p.m.) before challenging NCAA Division I rival Longwood on Sunday, Dec. 8 (6:30 p.m.).
