Guilford scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in both games of Mary Baldwin's season-opening softball doubleheader Friday. The score of both games was 2-1.
In the opener, Shiloh Grey stroked a bases-loaded, two-out single to center field, knocking in the game-winner against MBU relief pitcher Regan Frazier. Starting pitcher Emily McCreary went 6.1 innings, allowing five hits and four walks while fanning four. Offensively, Frazier knocked in the first run of the game in the second inning.
McKenzie Tillman had two of MBU's four hits.
In the nightcap, MBU led until Guilford scored twice in the bottom of the seventh.
Molly Thompson matched McCreary's strong performance for 6.1 innings allowing one earned run on six hits while fanning five strike outs. Thompson also scored MBU's run in the fifth inning on an infield error off a
Leanna Rankin batted ball.
MBU returns to action Wednesday with a home doubleheader against Randolph College.
