Gavin Rush reached base safely twice, but the Fighting Squirrels were unable to string together any offense to challenge the hosts.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Pacers scored five unearned runs after a leadoff error. Sophomore catcher Alex Levesque smacked a bases-loaded triple to center field to highlight the surge for the hosts, who added a run in the sixth and two in the eighth to complete the victory. WPU finished the game with 16 hits.
The Fighting Squirrels (4-12, 1-3 USA South) and Pacers (6-12, 2-2 USA South) will take the field again twice on Monday, with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
