Mary Baldwin closed out its 2024 USA South Athletic Conference men's and women's tennis seasons with a pair of losses to Methodist University Saturday.
The #3 MBU doubles team of
Brandon Kincaid and
Brandon Murphy picked up the hosts' only point in the Fighting Squirrels 8-1 loss to Methodist. Kincaid and Murphy topped the Methodist #3 tandem of Royce South and William Johnston by an 8-5 margin.
MBU's
Solomon Hines, playing the #5Â singles position, won the second set and went to a tiebreaker against Johnston before falling 6-3, 4-6 (10-7) to finish the match.Â
In the women's match, MBU's #2
Kelsey Bantel worked hard before falling 6-3, 6-2 vs. Caitlin Tihanovich.Â
Gabrielle Wyatt also won two games in her #4 singles match and one in her #2 doubles contest.
The men's team finished the season with a 1-13 overall record, 0-6 in the USA South. The women's team, which has a non-conference battle on the schedule for Sunday afternoon at Trinity University in D.C., is 1-13 overall and 0-8 in USA South play.
