Mary Baldwin's Connor Dobbin scored his first goal of the season and second of his career early in the second half against Ferrum Friday night, but the Panthers broke the game open with four goals in 12 minutes later in the half to gain a 7-1 non-conference men's soccer win over the Fighting Squirrels.
Ferrum jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead, then added a third goal three minutes into the second half. Dobbin put MBU on the scoreboard in the 61st minute, off an assist from Brendan Kincaid to give the visitors life. But the host Panthers (3-3) answered with four more goals to put the game away. Jonathan Nicacio led the hosts with two goals while Erick Nolasco added two assists for Ferrum.
Preston Bentley went the distance in goal for MBU, recording eight saves on 20 Ferrum shots.
The Fighting Squirrels play their next two matches at home, beginning Wednesday (9/18) against Eastern Mennonite (4:30 p.m.), followed by another non-conference clash against Gallaudet on Wednesday, Sept. 25 (4 p.m.).
