Box Score 2 The Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels Women's Volleyball team went 1-1 in their matches at the Shenandoah Invitational with a 3-0 victory over the Wilson College Phoenix and a 2-3 loss against the Hood College Blazers.
The Fighting Squirrels had a strong first game against the Phoenix. Sophomore
Delaney Bolbach led the team with 10 kills while
Kennedy Mills (8 kills) and
Morgan Flaherty (7 kills) also contributed to the victory. Senior
Soleil Rios Rolon aided the effort with 13 assists throughout the match. Mary Baldwin finished the game off in the third set with a 25-22 win to secure their first victory for the 2024 season.
In the second match up against the Blazers, the Fighting Squirrels carried their momentum from the first victory by taking the first two sets and narrowly losing the third in a 24-26. In the end, Hood College persevered and took the win in a 2-3 loss for Mary Baldwin. Sophomores
Sabrina Birts and
Kennedy Mills led the team with 10 kills a piece. Other notable feats for the squirrels were 30 assists for
Soleil Rios Rolon and 25 digs for
Alexa Ammerman.
Mary Baldwin returns to campus for their home opener against the Virginia Union Panthers on Tuesday, 9/10 at 6:00 pm before heading out on the road again against Hollins College on Thursday, 9/12 at 6:30 pm.
