Jaden Ignacio added 10 markers and a team-high eight rebounds, but the Mary Baldwin struggled through an off-shooting night in a 67-55 USA South men's basketball setback at Greensboro Tuesday.
The loss was MBU's first in conference play this season and snapped a six-game win streak (five-straight USA South conference victories). The Fighting Squirrels (10-6, 5-1 USA South) are still tied for first in the conference standings while Greensboro (3-13, 2-3 USA South) stopped a three-game slide.
The Fighting Squirrels gained one-point leads midway through each half, but on both occasions, the Pride answered with point streaks to regain their advantage.Â
MBU shot just 22-for-59 from the field for the game (37.3%), including a 5-for-23 performance from long range (21.7). The Fighting Squirrels also hit just half of their free throws (6-for-12). The Pride meanwhile won the game by shooting 25-for-49 from the field (51%) and 12-for-15 (80%) from the charity stripe.
The defending conference champion Fighting Squirrels return to the friendly confines of the PAC Saturday (1/25) for the first of consecutive home games. Saturday, MBU hosts North Carolina Wesleyan at 2 p.m., followed by the team's I-81 showdown Wednesday (1/29) against co-USA South leader Southern Virginia (6 p.m.).
