Mary Baldwin earned a 1-0 victory over the Methodist Monarchs in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 USA South playoffs Saturday at SMA Worth Field.

The first half featured a tight defensive battle, with the teams going into halftime tied 0-0. The sides combined for six shots in the opening 45 minutes, and sophomore goalkeeper Amelia Cross recorded three saves to keep the Fighting Squirrels level.

In the second half, Mary Baldwin broke through in the 65th minute when sophomore Anna Hill scored her fourth goal of the season, securing the game-winner.

"It's been 16 years since we last beat Methodist and three years since we went to the semifinals in the conference," MBU head coach Sunny Gelnovatch said. "I couldn't be prouder of my team. They're a resilient, hard-working group."

The Fighting Squirrels will face No. 1 seed Brevard, which topped No. 8 seed Salem Saturday by a 3-1 margin. The semifinal at Brevard Wednesday (11/5) will start at 1 p.m.
