The Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels took on the N.C. Wesleyan Battling Bishops in a doubleheader.
The Battling Bishops won the first match 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-14). The Fighting Squirrels opened strong, scoring six unanswered points to take an early 9-5 lead and never looked back in the first set. Mary Baldwin recorded 30 kills in the match and matched N.C. Wesleyan with six aces.
The second match was a back-and-forth battle that went to five sets, but N.C. Wesleyan came out on top 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-12).
Mary Baldwin took the first two sets, led by sophomore
Kennedy Mills, who recorded 14 kills—the second most among all players. Freshman setter
Kathryn Nguyen posted a season-high 39 assists, and sophomore libero
Alexa Ammerman tallied 23 digs, her second-highest total of the season.
The Fighting Squirrels got a big lift from their home crowd but came up just short in the final set. Mary Baldwin will go on the road to face Pfeiffer in the final match of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m.
