Box Score Mary Baldwin fell to Shenandoah 67-58 on Friday night in its regular-season opener.
The Fighting Squirrels took an early lead, going into halftime up 29-27.
Raymond Benton led Mary Baldwin in scoring in the first half with seven points. The Squirrels also moved the ball well, finishing with four more assists than the Hornets.
In the second half, Shenandoah made the most of its free-throw opportunities, converting 10 of 13 attempts. The Hornets outshot Mary Baldwin, making 62 percent of their field goals.
Mary Baldwin's defense created pressure, forcing 10 Shenandoah turnovers. The Squirrels' bench also provided a lift, contributing 13 points.
Mary Baldwin will be back on the road Nov. 12 to take on Eastern Mennonite University at 7 p.m.
