Quintin Hart played his final home regular-season basketball game in a Mary Baldwin uniform Saturday and popped in a game-high 18 points, leading four Fighting Squirrels into double figures in the scoring column, but MBU suffered its second-straight home loss against Methodist by an 81-69 margin.
Hart, the leading scorer in MBU men's basketball history with 1,160 points and at least three games remaining, was 7-for-10 vs. the Monarchs, including 4-for-6 from three-point range. Also hitting double digits for the hosts were freshman
DJ Via (15 points), who also hit four long-range shots, along with
Jaden Ignacio (12) and Ray Benton (10). Benton also finished with eight of MBU's 23 rebounds.
Methodist connected on 61.8% of its field goals (34-for-55), including 6-for-14 from three-point range. Ron Jones and Jeremy Mull shared top scoring duties for the Monarchs, each with 14 points. The visitors also had an advantage on the boards, collecting 36 rebounds.
The Fighting Squirrels finish out the regular-season with two road games this week at Southern Virginia (2/18, 6 p.m.) and Pfeiffer (2/22, 2 p.m.), followed by a first-round USA South playoff game on Tuesday, Feb. 25 - opponent, site and starting time to be determined.
