Mary Baldwin Baseball Loses Two Close Games to Mt. Aloysius

The Mary Baldwin University Fighting Squirrels hosted the Mt. Aloysius College Mounties this afternoon with two games in a doubleheader. Pitching was strong on both ends, but the Mounties pulled away in the end with two wins against the Fighting Squirrels with the first game finishing at 5-1 and the second finishing 3-2.

In today's first game, Mt. Aloysius jumped out to an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning (one earned, one unearned). Things quieted down for a couple of innings until #28 Isaiah Brooks hit an explosive triple to center field, who then scored on a ball in play by #1 Noah Kessler. It was a close game offensively as Mt. Aloysius only had one more hit than the Mary Baldwin, but were able to capitalize on more opportunities with runners on base leading them to a 5-1 victory in the first game.

For the second game in today's doubleheader, #7 Cody Hoffer led the Fighting Squirrels as he pitched five strong innings, only allowing one hit, one walk, and one run while throwing fifty-four pitches. After his departure from the game, they were unable to hold the lead as Mary Baldwin lost in a close game 3-2. #1 Noah Kessler had an impressive game at the plate as he went 1 for 2 with a hit, two walks, and a run scored. #11 Grayson Moore also had a very solid game at in the hot corner playing third base as he had three assists and two put out alongside a double-play.

Mary Baldwin looks to wrap up the weekend series against Mt. Aloysius tomorrow 3/2 with the final game at 1:00 PM. They then travel to Bridgewater College on Tuesday, 3/4 to play at 2:00 PM before returning back to Grottoes, VA on Wednesday, 3/5 to host Hampden-Syndey College at 3:00 PM
