Eric Leyton picked up a pair of wins on the court Saturday in leading the Mary Baldwin men's tennis team to its first win of the 2025 season with a 4-3 decision at NCAA Division II Virginia State.
Leyton teamed with
Brandon Dewald opened the match with a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles, and combined with a forfeit win at #3 doubles, MBU picked up the doubles team point for a 1-0 lead. Leyton then swept the #1 singles match to provide a 2-0 lead for the Fighting Squirrels.
Talen Brunson added a split-set win at #3 singles, and combined with a forfeit win at #6 singles, lifted the Fighting Squirrels to the triumph.
MBU (1-2) opens play at Hilton Head, S.C., with a match against Clark University Sunday (noon).
