Gretchen Lutz, playing her final match for the MBU women's tennis team, battled to the wire in a singles tiebreaker and teamed with freshman
Deanna Chapman in a strong doubles match to lead Mary Baldwin women's tennis in a 7-0 USA South Athletic Conference match vs. visiting Meredith.
Prior to the match,
Kelsey Bantel,
Lauren Byrnes,
Hana Lagana and Lutz were seniors honored for completing their tennis careers.
Lutz and Chapman challenged the Avenging Angels #1 team to a 6-3 decision while Bantel and
Harmony Crawford battled in a 6-4 loss at #3 doubles.
In singles play, Lutz won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 7-6, forcing the tiebreaker that Meredith's Ellie Osborne won by winning the last two points for a 10-7 decision.
Both MBU tennis teams host Pfeiffer Sunday (4/13), then finish the season with a non-conference battle at Roanoke on Friday (4/18).
