Baseball Team Loses Both Ends Of Doubleheader Sunday At Pfeiffer

Pfeiffer's offense gradually pulled away in the middle innings of both games Sunday as the host Falcons swept a USA South baseball doubleheader against Mary Baldwin, winning 14-5 and 9-2 over the Fighting Squirrels.

Mary Baldwin jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the first game on RBI hits by Michael Muller and Jacob Barber, and after Pfeiffer scored four in the second, MBU answered in the top of the third with one run on a Camden Bauswell base hit to cut the deficit to 4-3.  But Pfeiffer scored in every inning the rest of the game, including four-straight two-run innings, to gradually pull away for the decisive victory.  Kelly Hackley Jr. had three of MBU's nine hits while Muller had two walks to go along with his RBI hit and scored three times.

In the nightcap, the teams played three scoreless innings before Pfeiffer took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.  MBU answered with a two-run homer by Isiah Brooks in the fifth, but the hosts again put up three runs in the bottom half of the fifth to pad their lead.  The Falcons held the visitors scoreless on two hits the rest of the way.  Brooks and Hackley Jr. each had two of MBU's seven hits.

The Fighting Squirrels have the week off for final exams before returning to action Friday (5 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m. and 4 p.m.) with a three-game series against USA South rival North Carolina Wesleyan.
