Mary Baldwin women's basketball suffered a tough conference loss Wednesday night, falling 87–41 to the Southern Virginia Knights.
Southern Virginia's size advantage was evident from the opening tip, as Knights center Anna Kimball dominated the paint. Kimball recorded seven rebounds and five blocks in the first half, disrupting Mary Baldwin's offensive rhythm early.
Abigail Snyder led Southern Virginia's scoring surge, putting up 13 points in the first half to help the Knights build a commanding 44–18 halftime lead.
The Fighting Squirrels struggled offensively, shooting just 7-of-34 from the field and 4-of-12 from beyond the arc in the first half. Those struggles continued coming out of the break, as Mary Baldwin managed only five points in the third quarter.
Freshman
Madison Newbauer provided a bright spot in the fourth quarter, finding her shooting touch, knocking down 67 percent of her three-point attempts and finishing with a new career high in points.
Mary Baldwin will look to bounce back as the Fighting Squirrels travel to William Peace University to take on the Pacers on Saturday, January 17, at 2:00 p.m.
