Mary Baldwin Men's Basketball fell to N.C. Wesleyan 88–63 on the road, despite a career-high performance from sophomore
Rony Hogarth.
The Battling Bishops set the tone early, opening the game with a 20–point run to jump out to a 26–4 lead. Mary Baldwin struggled to find its rhythm from beyond the arc in the first half, shooting just 1-for-10 from three-point range. N.C. Wesleyan wasn't much sharper from deep (1-for-8), but capitalized on Mary Baldwin's 10 first-half turnovers to maintain control.
Hogarth came alive after halftime, carrying the offensive load for the Fighting Squirrels. The sophomore poured in 21 points in the second half alone, knocking down two three-pointers and finishing through contact for an and-one highlight.
Despite Hogarth's strong showing, N.C. Wesleyan's offense stayed consistent, outscoring Mary Baldwin 43–38 in the second half. The Bishops' ball movement proved decisive, as they held a significant edge in assists (21–10) and protected the basketball, committing just seven turnovers compared to Mary Baldwin's 16.
The Fighting Squirrels will return to the road on Wednesday, January 28, to face Southern Virginia University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
