The Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels women's basketball team dropped a conference home matchup to the Brevard Tornadoes, 87–37, on Tuesday night.
The contest was a tale of two halves, as Mary Baldwin came out strong offensively. Freshman
Lanie Bethel led the early surge, opening the game by hitting three of her first four attempts from beyond the arc, including a contested three from the wing. Bethel scored 13 of MBU's 27 first-half points and finished the night with a team-high 18 points.
Despite the strong start, Brevard took a six-point lead into halftime.
The Tornadoes turned up the pressure in the second half, particularly in the third quarter. Brevard poured in 34 points during the period and went on a decisive 35–0 scoring run that began at the 7:49 mark of the third quarter and stretched into the early moments of the fourth.

Jada Petty-Wilkins led all scorers with 20 points for Brevard.
Mary Baldwin will look to bounce back as the Fighting Squirrels hit the road to take on Pfeiffer on Saturday, January 10, with tipoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
