Mary Baldwin Bounces Back to Split With Sweet Briar

Mary Baldwin softball split its doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, losing the first game 10-0 before earning a 5-3 win in the second matchup against Sweet Briar.

Game 1

The Sweet Briar Vixens got going early, scoring six runs in the first three innings. A pair of sacrifice flies added two more runs in the sixth before Jordan Dorrier sealed the game with a two-run double.

Game 2

Mary Baldwin found its groove in the second game, jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead. With the bases loaded in the first inning, freshman Cassidy Branch hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing senior Hannah Bolt to tag up and score. In the second inning, freshman Jada Bolden added another run with an RBI single.

The Vixens responded with a productive third inning, scoring two runs, but could not maintain the momentum. Branch recorded her second RBI of the game in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, freshman Lizzy Laurelli scored what proved to be the game-winning run for Mary Baldwin.
