Mary Baldwin softball split its final regular-season doubleheader against Southern Virginia, dropping Game one, 4-1, before rebounding for an 8-5 win in Game two.

Game 1

The Fighting Squirrels and Knights were scoreless through two innings before Berkley Whitten broke the tie in the third with a three-run home run to left field.

Southern Virginia added to its lead when Sophia Badell hit a solo home run to center field.

Mary Baldwin responded in the sixth inning as freshman Dana Micone hit her second home run of the season, but the rally fell short.

Game 2

Mary Baldwin struck first in Game 2, capitalizing on a Southern Virginia throwing error that allowed freshman Emma Morris and sophomore Hannah Bolt to score.

The Knights tied the game in the top of the third inning, but the lead was short-lived. In the bottom half, freshman Skylar Meriwether delivered a two-run RBI single to center field to give the Fighting Squirrels a 5-2 advantage.

Trailing 6-2 in the fifth, Southern Virginia mounted a late push, scoring three runs to cut the deficit to one.

Mary Baldwin answered in the bottom of the inning as senior Breanna Donnell hit an RBI single, and Morris added back-to-back RBI singles to secure the win.

The Fighting Squirrels finish the season 9-28-1 overall and 4-14 in conference play. Mary Baldwin will look to build on its young core heading into next season.
