Late goal lifts Mary Baldwin past Regent, 2-1

Mary Baldwin men's soccer captured its second win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Regent University.

The Fighting Squirrels took the lead early in the first half. Senior Nicholas Ashley delivered the ball past defenders to sophomore Jayden Davis in stride, scoring his third goal of the season.

Mary Baldwin was aggressive in the opening 45 minutes, taking eight shots. The Fighting Squirrels' defense also held strong as the Royals struggled to establish possession in the first half.

In the 80th minute, David Gillespie tied the game for the Royals.

With 30 seconds remaining, senior Isaiah Morris passed the ball to senior David Romano, who placed the ball in the upper corner for the game-winning goal.

Mary Baldwin improves to 2-2-1 on the season and will face Gallaudet University at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.
