Box Score Mary Baldwin women's soccer traveled to Meredith College on Saturday, falling 2-1 to the Avenging Angels.

The teams played to a 1-1 tie in the first half, with both offenses coming out aggressively and combining for 18 shots. Meredith opened the scoring in the 16th minute.

The Fighting Squirrels responded with an offensive push, taking 12 shots in the first half. Sophomore Joelle Hare tied the match in the 36th minute, with fellow sophomore Rory Patchett recording the assist.

Meredith scored the game-winning goal in the 46th minute as Rachel Ward found the bottom-left corner of the net just past the goalkeeper.

Mary Baldwin continued to apply pressure in the second half, outshooting the Avenging Angels 11-6.

The Fighting Squirrels fell to 0-2 in conference play.

Mary Baldwin will return to action Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. against Eastern Mennonite University on the road.
