STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College tennis team improved their record to 1-7 (1-4 USAS) this afternoon defeating Averett University 5-4.
The visitors took an early 2-1 lead taking both the #1 and #3 doubles matches but the Fighting Squirrels came roaring back in singles winning four of the six matches.
Averett's #1 Suvi Salminen defeated Katy Kelly 8-0 and Averett's #5 Jessie Gomes narrowly defeated Miangel Hite but MBC easily took the other four matches. #2 McKayla Burnett defeated Morgan Epstein 8-1 while #3 Najah-Jenea Edgar won over Katelyn Powell 8-3. #4 Sara Valdivieso and #6 Lotosha Gough both gave up just one game winning their matches 8-1.
Mary Baldwin College improves to 1-7 (1-4 USAS) while Averett falls to 0-7 (0-5 USAS).
The Fighting Squirrels are scheduled to be on the road this weekend traveling to Georgia to play Piedmont College and LaGrange College before returning home for their final five matches.
