Box Score 2 SALEM, VA - The Fighting Squirrels' Volleyball Team traveled to
Roanoke today to compete in the Roanoke College Maroon Classic
Volleyball Tournament. MBC faced Southern Virginia University
and Hollins University this afternoon.
In the first match against Southern Virginia Mary Baldwin
lost 0-3 (11-25, 19-25, and 15-25). "We didn't win the serve and
pass game today during this match so they kept us out of system and
we missed a lot of serves," stated Head Coach, Paul Yee.
Sophomores Katie Rice and Jessica Hickman, along with Freshman
Kennedy Quick led the team in kills with 6, 5, and 4 respectively.
Freshman Xenna Belfield led the team in digs with 10 while Katie
Rice contributed 9.
The second match featured Mary Baldwin and Hollins University.
According to Coach Yee "Hollins outplayed us and we didn't control
our situations during the match." Hollins won in three sets (18-25,
15-25, and 15-25).
Katie Rice led the team in kills with 16 while Sophomore Farrah
Fullerton and Freshman Kennedy Quick contributed with 5 each.
Sophomore Reilly Kelly had 26 assists. Xenna Belfield led the team
in digs with 18 while Jessica Hickman and Katie Rice had 12 and 11
respectively.
At the end of the day, Coach Yee thinks that "we will learn from
this experience and tomorrow will be another big test."
Mary Baldwin College (0-8, 0-0 USAS) continue play tomorrow at
the Maroon Classic when they take on Randolph College at 9:00am
before ending the tournament against host Roanoke College at
3:00pm.
