STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College tennis team completed the 2015 season this weekend with two USA South Conference matchups at home.
On Saturday, Mary Baldwin lost to Covenant College 8-1. Covenant jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles. Covenant's Gretchen Rowe/Claire Luger defeated Alayah Austin/Sakurako Ishii at the #1 spot 8-0. At the second spot, Gracie Smith and Jennie Spielman defeated Miangel Hite and Jeni-Lee MacLaughlin 8-2 while Catherine Landers and Jessica Rowe defeated Brenda Ajavon and Jochebed Koomson 8-3.
In singles, Covenant's Gretchen Rowe defeated Alayah Austin at the #1 spot 6-0, 6-0. MBC's Jochebed Koomson, who played at the #2 spot, lost to Annie Deluca 3-6, 1-6. In the third spot, Gracie Smith scored another point for Covenant when she defeated Sakurako Ishii 6-0, 6-2 while Lindsay Geving took the #4 win 6-1, 6-2 over Miangel Hite. In the #5 singles match, Jessica Rowe narrowly defeated Brenda Ajavon 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 10-7. Jeni-Lee MacLaughlin scored Mary Baldwin's only point at the #6 spot when she defeated Mackenzie Jones 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, 10-6.
On Sunday, Meredith College swept Mary Baldwin while only giving up 3 games in doubles and 5 games in singles.
Mary Baldwin College finishes the season 2-13 and 2-9 in the USA South Athletic Conference.
