Fighting Squirrels Downed by Falcons in OT

STAUNTON, Va. – The Mary Baldwin men's soccer team took on Pfeiffer University at home on Tuesday afternoon and lost 2-1 in overtime at SMA Worth Field.

Mary Baldwin drops to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference, while Pfeiffer improves to 4-6 on the season and 2-4 in league action.

The Fighting Squirrels opened the game by scoring in the sixth minute with a goal from Marcos Sasia who took a loose ball and shot a 25-yarder in the top corner of the net. The Falcons responded in the 23rd minute with a goal from Caleb Bratager, assisted by Jonathan Quintero, 1-1. Neither side could break the tie as the game remained deadlocked at the recess.

The draw held through the end of the second period to send the game to overtime before Pfeiffer struck in the 96th minute. Bratager took a ball from an MBU defender and scored the game-winning goal, which was his second of the contest.

David Chavarria got the win in net for the Falcon making four saves and improving to 3-5 on the season while Obdulio Argueta made five saves in the loss, falling to 4-5.

Pfeiffer University held a 17-12 edge in shots, including both attempts in the extra period. Both teams were deadlocked with four corner kicks.

The Fighting Squirrels will return to action on Friday, Oct. 4 at 2pm when they take on Methodist to kick off Family Weekend.
