Scots Blank Fighting Squirrels

STAUNTON, Va. – The Mary Baldwin University men's soccer team lost a 4-0 contest to Covenant at SMA Worth Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Fighting Squirrels drop to 6-7 on the year behind a 3-5 mark in league play, while the Scots, who are the top team in the West, move to 10-1-1 overall with a perfect 7-0 record in the conference.

In the first half, Jake Major took the rebound off a shot by Parker Owen and buried a shot to put CC ahead 1-0 in the 17th minute. Keegan Weekley added another for the Scots just a few minutes later before Griffin Felton finished the scoring in the half at the 34th minute to put Covenant up 3-0 at the break.

In the second period, Jesse Riggs scored on a penalty kick after a handball in the box to seal the 4-0 final.

Obdulio Argueta made six saves in the loss while Paul Lemay only had to stop one in the shutout.

Covenant notched 16 shots compared to just eight from Mary Baldwin, while MBU had the advantage in corners, 3-2.

The Fighting Squirrels return to action next Saturday, Oct. 12, as they travel to face LaGrange in USA South action.
