STAUNTON, Va. -- The Mary Baldwin University women's tennis team battled Hollins at home to a 6-3 defeat on Wednesday night.
On the season, the Fighting Squirrels fall to 0-14 while Hollins moves to 4-12 overall.
In doubles play, the No. 2 tandem of Julia Kelly and Lucie Oechslin fought to an 8-4 victory that gave the Fighting Squirrels an early edge in the match. After Hollins picked up an 8-1 victory at the top doubles slot, the No. 3 team of Alexis Gonzalez and Olivia Anderson battled in a hard-fought match before falling to Elizabeth Eubank and Amanda Dobert, 8-6.
Anderson picked up a 6-4, 6-7, 10-4 win at the fourth singles slot over Anna Holland and Donetta Thomas coasted to a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the sixth slot to set the final match score of 6-3.
Mary Baldwin is back in action on Friday, April 19, as it travels to face Emory & Henry - a match that was rescheduled from earlier this year due to weather.
