Fighting Squirrels Battle with Eagles in Double Overtime

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Mary Baldwin University men's soccer team pushed Bridgewater to a second overtime period before falling to the Eagles, 2-1, on Wednesday night.

The Fighting Squirrels pull even at 2-2, while the Eagles improve to 2-4 on the year.

Both sides were held scoreless in the first half before Thomas White put BC on the board in the 49th minute. The 1-0 lead held until the 72:27 mark as Dylan Sykes notched his first goal of the season to tie the game at one apiece. The score held through the end of regulation and into the second overtime period.

In the 105th minute, Luke Stubbs ended it with an assist from White as the Eagles prevailed, 2-1.

The Eagles outshot MBU by a 24-18 margin while the Fighting Squirrels held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Obdulio Argueta was in the cage for Mary Baldwin as he pushed aside six shots, while Colin Rouaud made three saves in the win.

The Fighting Squirrels open USA South play on Saturday, Sept. 14, with a home match against Maryville. The scheduled first touch is 1 pm.
