Fighting Squirrels Blanked by Pacers

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Mary Baldwin University men's soccer team fell to William Peace, 3-0, at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday

The Fighting Squirrels pull even at 5-5 on the year and drop to 2-3 in USA South play. Meanwhile, the Pacers improve to 5-2-2 overall behind a 3-1-1 mark in league play.

WPU scored early as Ivan Ponce put the Pacers on the board at the 5:36 mark of the game. William Peace added another goal in the 16th minute on Ponce's second score of the game with an assist from Osciel Dominguez.

Jose Aguirre added another insurance goal at the 50:05 mark to give the Pacers a 3-0 lead, which held to the finish of the contest.

The Pacers outshot the Fighting Squirrels, 15-14, while also holding a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Jackson Davis made five saves in 45 minutes, while Obdulio Argueta also pushed aside a shot in the loss. For the Pacers, Jacob Smith stopped four shots in the shutout.

The Fighting Squirrels return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 1, as they host Pfeiffer at SMA Worth Field beginning at 4:30 pm.
