Averett scored three times in the opening half Wednesday afternoon and defeated Mary Baldwin 4-1 in men's soccer action.

The Cougars scored in the fifth minute on a goal by Lluc Pou and added its second goal in the 29th minute on a goal by Augustin Jaraba. Ethan Sternberg made it 2-0 when he converted a PK.

Averett added its final goal early in the second half to lead 4-0.

Mary Baldwin got on the scoreboard in 78th minute when Pedro De Oliveira dropped a pass to Edward Headley who scored on a shot just inside the post.

The Squirrels are now 4-8-1 and 1-3 in the conference. Mary Baldwin is back in action Saturday evening at William Peace.
