FERRUM, Va. - Mary Baldwin slipped past Ferrum College 5-4 Sunday in women's tennis action.

The Fighting Squirrels led 2-1 at the completion of doubles action. MBU's Gretchen Lutz and Katlyn Massie topped Megan Scott and Esma Atkinson 8-3 to win at No. 1 doubles. Lauren Hodgkins and Liz Wine won the point at No. 3 doubles with an impressive 8-0 win over Sarah Estes and Sheila Marquez.

The Squirrels then split the six singles matches to clinch the team victory.

Massie claimed the point at No. 1, rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Madison Wright. At No. 3 singles, MBU's Alexis Seymore took a 6-1, 6-4 win over Atkinson. Summer Wendt defeated Marquez 6-0, 6-0 to win at No.  singles. 

Two other singles matches went to split sets with Ferrum winning the third-set tiebreaker. Ferrum's Morgan Hundley defeated Hodgkins 7-6, 0-6, 1-0 (7-4) at the No. 4 position. At No. 5 Estes edged MBU's Wine 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8)
